Reiki vs. EFT vs. Sound Healing: Which One is Right for You?

If you’re exploring holistic ways to heal your body, emotions, or even have more energy, you’ve probably heard of healing techniques like Reiki, EFT (tapping), and Sound Healing. But which one is right for you?

At Indigo Palm Healing in West Columbia, SC we offer all three, and can even blend them based on your unique needs. Below is a guide to help you understand each modality and how it can support your personal healing journey.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing art that involves the gentle placement of hands on or around the body to channel healing energy into a recipient. It’s deeply relaxing and often is used to reduce stress, balance emotions, and promote inner peace. Reiki helps you realign with your natural state of balance and calm.

Best for:

  • Feeling “off”, emotionally heavy, or energetically blocked

  • Anxiety, grief, burnout

  • Pain Reduction, promoting faster healing of physical wounds, strengthening your immune system

  • Spiritual reconnection or inner peace

What to expect: Your session begins with a conversation to discuss your intended goals. Next you’ll lie fully clothed on a comfortable table while your practitioner gently transfers the healing energy by either hovering the hands or gently placing them on your body, starting at the head, going down the body and ending with grounding at the ankles and feet. Afterward you’ll receive aftercare instructions and questions you may have will be answered. Each session is different as each person’s needs are different. People have reported receiving guidance, seeing colors or images, having releases, or feelings of floating in a state of deep relaxation.

What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping, is a type of treatment that can be used to control your thoughts, manage stress, and regulate emotions. When using EFT, you tap certain pressure points on your head, torso, wrists or hands, while using language that addresses your problem. These points are similar to some of the points used during acupressure or acupuncture. Tapping on these points while gently putting language to your problem tells the body you are safe so it can release the intense emotional response to it. It’s a powerful blend of somatic therapy and emotional processing.

Best for:

  • Specific emotional or mental patterns you’re trying to change

  • Releasing old trauma or inner blocks

  • Those who want a more “active” healing experience

What to expect: Your session will begin with a conversation to gather background information and discuss intended goals. While sitting in a chair, you’ll tap gently on key points on your face and upper body while being gently guided through emotional releases, limiting beliefs, or triggers. It’s empowering, often fast acting (while one session is helpful, best practice indicates a series of four sessions is optimal), and creates breakthroughs in how you feel and think.

What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is the application of sound waves at different frequencies, applied to or around a person’s body, for attuning, aligning, releasing, calming and overall healing. Sound healing works by applying the harmonic frequencies that resonate with different parts of the body, bringing them back into balance. The sound waves can be applied through a multitude of different instruments and tools that create varying high and low frequency sound waves. When the sound waves intercept with a person’s energy fields, chakras or body organs, the body has the capacity to match that tone and attune itself to its original state of wellness and optimum functionality.

Best for:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Sleep issues, overthinking, or emotional tension

  • Reducing pain

  • Stress and anxiety

What to expect: You’ll relax fully clothed on a massage table as sound waves wash over and through you. Most people report deep calm, vivid imagery, or even energetic releases.

“If Reiki is like gentle water, sound healing

is like waves that move through your entire

being.”
